I’m so thrilled to share with you that your children have worked so hard in their reading and have now read over 15 million words! I mentioned to you earlier in the year about research that indicates reading for pleasure is one of the biggest determiners in a child’s long term educational success and I’m so proud of the children for more than meeting our target. I have to give a special mention to the year 2 class who have so far read 1,488,087 words – almost five times their target of 300,000 (the original target was double the amount of words that they had read the previous year!) This week they had a special treat and visited Seven Stories where they could develop their love of reading even further. I’ve now got to work with the teachers to think of a special whole school celebration. Let’s see how many words we can get to by the end of the year!
