Monday 24th – Friday 28th February is reading week at Stead Lane Primary School and we are asking

for your support in as many ways as possible. Please read on for more information.

Things you can help with at home:

  • We would like each child in main school to take part in our Sponsored Read – anything that your child reads at home is logged and the children who have logged the most entries will win a prize in our Friday Prize Assembly on 28th February. Reading Logs & Sponsor Forms should come home today along with this newsletter. Spares are available from the school office. Please hand completed forms and money into school on Friday 28th February to be in with a chance of winning. Money raised will go towards buying new books in school.
  • We are holding a ‘Photograph Competition’ and we ask that you take a photograph of your child reading in an unusual or funny place. Please send any entries into school before Friday 28th February. Entries can be printed by yourselves and sent in or you can email them to admin@steadlane.northumberland.sch.uk. Prizes for the best entries. This competition is open to all children.

Events in school during Reading Week:

  • Police, Fire fighters and other members of the community will be in school throughout the week to read to the children
  • ‘Great Book Swap’ on Friday 28th February – all children are asked to bring any unwanted books, in good condition, into school and for however many they bring, they will be able to choose the same amount of different ones. Any books left over will be available to buy from 3pm on 28th in the school hall for a small charge.
  • ‘Character Fancy Dress Day’ on Friday 28th February – all children may come into school dressed as a character from our week’s theme of ‘Tales’, so it could be a character from a fairytale eg; Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Little Pigs, Cinderella etc; There will be no charge for fancy dress on this occasion.

Any parents or family members who are willing to give up a little time to come into school on a regular basis and listen to children read are always greatly appreciated. If you are interested please inform any member of staff. Thank you.
